Bengaluru: Woman throws off her 7-year-old daughter twice from terrace
In a very disturbing incident, a seven-year-old girl, Aishika Sarkar, was allegedly killed by her mother Swathi who threw her off to the ground twice from their four-story residential complex's terrace at Jaraganahalli in Bengaluru's JP Nagar. Aishika was a special child with speech development issues. Police arrested Swathi, a former schoolteacher; they believe she is mentally unstable. Tap in for more Bengaluru news!
Arun Jaitley inaugurates BEML's metro manufacturing unit in Bengaluru
Union Defense and Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, inaugurated the much-awaited third line of Bharat Earth Movers Limited's ultra modern metro manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. With this new unit, the state-run defense organization would be able to produce 24-30 metro cars in a month; each line can manufacture 8-10 coaches a month. The defense PSU is the only manufacturer of metro coaches in India.
Karnataka VVIP Racism: MLA's son hits bike; no case registered
A Karnataka Congress MLA's son reportedly rammed his car into a bike in Bengaluru. He sped away soon after the accident in which two were injured. However, the locals chased his car to confront him. The police registered no case despite the angry locals' protests.
Sri Lanka PM's Kollur visit postponed due to bad weather
Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, was scheduled to visit Kollur's Shree Mookambika Temple in Karnataka's Udupi district on 27 August. Despite the arrangements, Ranil's chopper couldn't land in Udupi's Shiroor owing to continuous rain and bad weather. He was to attend the temple's "Navagraha Chandika Homa" that was organized from 26-27 August. He is expected to visit the temple in October.
Karnataka-Israel agricultural project: Farmers to harvest first crop in years
About 15,000 farmers of Karnataka's Hunagund are going to harvest their first Kharif crop in several years, thanks to Karnataka government's collaboration with Israel. Adopting Israeli agriculture techniques, Karnataka transformed 59,000 acres of drought-stricken land into a fertile one under its Ramthal Drip Irrigation Project. While the previous BJP government initiated the project in 2009, the current Congress government also worked hard for it.
Traders want Centre to defer GST due to technical issues
Owing to technical glitches on Centre's GST Network portal, only 1.25 lakh traders of the 4.5 lakh registered ones in Karnataka file their returns before 25 August, the last day to pay GST for July. Several traders were asked to pay a penalty of Rs. 100-5,000 per day for the non-payment of GST before the deadline apart from 18% interest on the due amount.
