Mysuru Palace fire damages ticket counter, compound wall
A fire which broke out at an ATM-kiosk inside Mysuru Palace caused damage to parts of the palace's gate, the compound wall near the ticket counter and the counter. No injuries were reported; the area was cordoned off. According to reports, an electrical short-circuit in the ATM room caused the fire. It was doused by 6:35 am. KSRTC to provide value added services on premium buses
On Thursday, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation initiated its value added services for commuters and reintroduced distributing free water to commuters taking its premium buses. Commuters will also get complementary copies of the Times of India newspaper in the morning. The free distribution of water will be across 626 premium services including Airavat Club Class, Airavat Diamond Class, Airavat, AC Sleeper and Flybus.
Bengaluru girl scores 96.33% in PU, barely studied at home
A student of SGPTA PU College, Thyagarajanagara, Nandini. S scored 96.33% in Science stream in this year's Pre University exams. She claims she studied a mere two hours at home everyday, and would spend her maximum time studying in college. Sometimes, Nandini would also double up as an office maid to assist her mother in her work.
NRI Doctor is Labour Party candidate for UK Polls
Kalaburagi district's Kamlapur-based Neeraj Patil, an NRI doctor is now a candidate for the Labour Party from Putney, southwest London. He will be contesting the UK parliamentary elections on 8th June. He was also on the Labour Party's shortlist to run for the mayoral post in 2015. He works as an accident and emergency medicine consultant in London.
KFD receives record-breaking volunteers for elephant census
The 2017 elephant census in Karnataka is going to start on 16th May, and over 600 residents have volunteered for the same this year. The census, which occurs once in five years, extended its public outreach this year owing to the increasing deaths arising out of human-elephant conflict. The list released by Karnataka Forest Department shows over 533 volunteers, apart from 92 'resource' persons.
Cap on movie ticket prices not applicable on weekends
The Karnataka High Court ruled that the cap on movie ticket prices in Karnataka will be applicable only on weekdays. The High Court on Thursday was hearing a writ petition filed by the Multiplex Association of India (MIA) on 9th May. The State Government has been given four weeks' time to file counter.
