Bengaluru: Car race by minors on expressway kills 17-year-old
A midnight car race by three teenagers on Bengaluru's Hosur Road Elevated Expressway resulted in the death of one them near Roopena Agrahara. 17-year-old college student Arfhan Salim from HSR Layout was beheaded as his car crashed into the flyover railing. His 16-year-old friends -HSR Layout's Anirudh and Devarachikkanhalli's Srinivas- reportedly suffered no injuries. The minors were driving their fathers' cars. Know more!
Minors claim they regularly go on early-morning drives
DCP (Traffic-East) Abhishek Goyal said the accident took place at 3 am when the boys were racing towards Madiwala, down the expressway, at over 150kmph. Arfhan was driving a Skoda car; Srinivas was in a Toyota Innova and Anirudh in a Suzuki sedan. They took their parents' cars out when they were asleep; they belong to affluent families and are children of software engineers.
Case registered against minors and their fathers
The two teenagers were booked for racing, rash and negligent driving, and causing death due to negligence. The fathers were booked for allowing unauthorized people to drive their cars. Srinivas's father Govinda Raju and Anirudh's father Krishna Murthy have been arrested and released on bail while Arfhan's father Salim would be arrested after his son's last rites are completed.
