Bengaluru NCC cadet drowns in pond while friends click selfies
On Sunday, a 17-year-old NCC cadet from Bengaluru's National College drowned in a pond, even as his friends were busy taking selfies. The cadet, identified as Vishwas G, was picnicking at Ravagondlu Betta near Kanakapura, some 40km away from Bengaluru. Shockingly, one of the pictures captured Vishwas drowning in the background while his friends remained oblivious and busy posing for selfies.
Vishwas ventured towards deep center of the pond
Police said Vishwas was part of a group of 25 NCC cadets that had gone for a camp and entered a pond which was 10-ft deep. He had ventured towards the center of the pond while his friends remained at its edge, taking selfies. His friends left and later realized he had gone missing. They returned to the pond to find his body floating.
Parents protest against college negligence
Vishwas was the elder son of an autorickshaw driver Govindaraju and homemaker Sunanda. His parents and relatives sat with his body in front of the National College, alleging negligence by the institution's faculty and the NCC unit in charge. The protest was called off after the college management assured demonstrators that stringent action would be taken against the staff, if negligence was confirmed.
