Drug busts near educational institutes becoming rampant: Home Minister
On Thursday, Bengaluru Home Minister G Parmeshwara told the legislative council that approximately 26 cases of drug busts occurred near educational institutes since 3 years. Since January 2017, 4 cases of drug abuse have been booked and 10 peddlers have been detained. The government said Nigerian gangsters are involved at the root of such incidents. Bengaluru university discovers 'fake' affiliated college
Officials of the Bengaluru University unearthed an elaborate scam designed by a private institute facilitating distance learning, which allegedly cheated 70 students since 2016. Management of the private university claimed to be affiliated to BU; they conducted final exams, and students were awarded fake graduation certificates with a bogus BU emblem. Admission tickets, question papers and marksheets were all forged with the BU logo.
Security guard molests woman
A 25-year-old security guard molested a woman staying alone in an apartment in Baiyappanahalli. According to the police, the guard visited the victim's flat under the pretext of checking the power supply connection as there had been a short circuit in the apartment earlier. The guard asked the woman to give him a kiss; when she refused, he tore her clothes and molested her.
Iskcon food likely to be served in Namma Canteens
The International Society for Krishna Consciouness (Iskcon) might be the single source of food for the newly proposed Namma Canteens of Bengaluru. According to sources, the food and civil supplies department pitched the idea of collaborating with Iskcon. Food from the Iskcon kitchen already satiates the hunger of thousands of children across the state under the midday meal scheme.
BJP leader was trapped into helping mother of the accused
According to the police, Srinivas Prasad, BJP leader of Bommasandra was lured out of his home in the wee hours of Tuesday. Prime accused Madhu Muniyellappa called Prasad at 4:45 am, asking for help to take his mother to the hospital. When Prasad rushed out of his car, he was ambushed and hacked to death. Madhu had also put chili powder in his eyes.
Farmer commits suicide after no loan-waiver in budget
30-year-old Prakash, a farmer from T Malligere in Mandya district committed suicide by hanging himself. The complaint filed by his mother stated that he was upset about farmers' loans not being waived off in the state budget. Prakash had acquired a loan worth Rs.5 lakh for growing paddy, but due to lack of water, the crop failed to grow.
