Court orders Bengaluru salon to compensate woman for 'damaging hair'
A consumer court ordered a Bengaluru-based salon to pay Rs. 30,000 to a woman who had sued them for damaging her hair and 'dignity.' She had also targeted L'Oreal, but they were spared. The 49-year-old had got a hair treatment done from unisex salon 'Cut the Crap' in October 2016. She soon noticed her hair started turning rough and falling post the hair smoothing.
Hair treatment gone wrong
Nisha Batavia went back to the salon after three days, who promised her damage control. Experts from L'Oreal inspected her hair and started treatment but her hairfall worsened. After five sittings, the salon and L'Oreal gave up and advised her to go to a trichologist. Batavia, now furious, complained at the consumer forum against the salon and L'Oreal in December'16.
'Salon not franchise, just uses our products, hence not guilty'
L'Oreal's lawyer said the salon is not their franchise and just uses their products. Moreover, she did not use the product after purchasing herself, so they aren't guilty. The court accepted the argument and spared them. However, it pulled up the salon and asked them to pay Rs. 31,000 to Batavia for causing her anguish due to poor treatment and for litigation expenses.
