Karnataka CM launches mobile Indira canteens in Bengaluru

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently flagged off 24 mobile Indira Canteens. The canteens were launched to make the state hunger-free by serving food to the poor at subsidized rates. According to reports, the 24 mobile canteens were planned to cater 24 wards of the city and the government purchased 24 Force Tempo Traveler vehicle at Rs. 8.5 lakh each. Here are the details.
The canteens
Veg breakfast at Rs. 5 and meals at Rs. 10
The canteens will serve, "breakfast at Rs. 5 per plate and lunch, dinner at Rs. 10." For the power supply, the canteens are fitted with solar panels and equipped with GPS system and CCTV cameras. The canteens were unveiled last year by Congress President Rahul Gandhi and were named after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. These canteens are similar to Tamil Nadu's Amma Canteens.

Canteens to be parked near parks and prime locations
Keeping an eye on the upcoming state Assembly elections, Siddaramaiah allocated Rs. 100 crore in last year's fiscal budget to run the canteens. However, due to the scarcity of land, the government had to launch mobile canteens. Bengaluru civic body spokesman L Suresh said, "The canteens will be parked near public parks and prime locations of 24 civic wards serving breakfast, lunch and dinner."
