Karnataka: Doctor arrested for misbehaving with female patient
A retired government doctor was arrested for allegedly misbehaving with a female patient at his private clinic in Byadarahalli area of Ramanagara district of Karnataka. The 64-year-old doctor identified as Dr B Shivaram has been booked under IPC 354 A (sexual harassment) for allegedly kissing and hugging a 27-year-old female patient who had come to him to consult about her acute headache.
Doctor well-known for his 'healing touch': Villagers
According to reports, as news about the doctor's arrest spread in the area, around 200 residents of the area and neighbouring villages rushed to the Byadarahalli police station to claim that the doctor is a gentleman and that he is known for his 'healing touch'. The retired doctor worked at a government hospital for over 30 years, before opening his own clinic in Anjananagar.
Doctor touched my forehead, hugged and kissed me: Patient
The patient, a homemaker and mother of a two-year-old child is a resident of Byadarahalli and went to the clinic alone. She said, "When I explained my problem, he touched my forehead and gently massaged it." "I thought he was checking my pulse. But slowly his arms covered me and before I realized, he was hugging and kissing me," she further added.
Doctor released on bail after being produced in local court
The arrested doctor was later produced at a local court in Ramanagara and was released on bail. According to the police, in a confession statement, Dr Shivaraj said he was just trying to comfort the patient. However, the police said, "When we explained to him that what he has been accused of is anything but comforting. He didn't argue."
