Bengaluru: Handloom and handicraft manufacturers organize "Tax Denial Satyagraha"
What's the story
"Tax Denial Satyagraha" was held at Bengaluru's Town Hall to oppose GST on khadi products and items made from coir, jute, and grass.
Hundreds of handloom and handicraft manufacturers came together for the event organized by Graama Seva Sangha (GSS); several consumers, activists, and artists have participated.
Such "Satyagrahas" would be held in places like Chennai, Kolkata, and Jaipur from 11-24 September.

Handmade products without GST
All India Federation of Handloom Organizations demanded zero-tax on handmade and khadi products. GSS Convenor Abhilash stated, "We are taking the issue forward with this satyagraha." The Gandhi Topi is the only khadi product that is exempted from GST; rest attract 5-15% GST.
