Summer of '18: Bengaluru received double than normal rain
Bengaluru is known as the 'air-conditioned' city of India, not without any reason. Torrential rain and thunderstorms that the city has been receiving since past few days have brought down the temperature to a pleasurable level. Interestingly, Bengaluru has received double the rain this year it usually gets in this season. IMD predicts that this situation will continue for the next 5 days.
Rain is beautiful, claim Bengalureans
Monsoon happened due to continued wind convergence at lower level
Since March 1 till now, a whopping 207mm of rain has been lashing Bengaluru, as against the usual 115mm. "There has been extra rainfall due to continued convergence of wind at a lower level, which occurs due to heating of the land," said C S Patil, an IMD official. Though the whole city received rains yesterday, West and South Bengaluru were affected the most.
Respite from heat, but traffic and water-logging plagued city
Though the rains brought significant respite from heat, there were numerous complaints of water-logging, traffic blockades and tree felling. The BBMP control room said it received 15 complaints of tree felling from areas like Vijayanagar, Nagarbhavi, KP Agrahara, and Malleswaram. Those who were returning from their offices were left fuming, as they waited for hours to cross a certain stretch.
