Bengaluru woman wore burqa, acted ill- all to steal bikes
Wearing a burqa to avoid the CCTV cameras, a 36-year-old woman enters a Yamaha showroom, discusses the features of a Yamaha Fascino scooter with a salesman, then suddenly pretends to faint and asks for a glass of water. When the salesman rushes to get that, she speeds away with the bike. Meet Bengaluru's Babli, who was arrested recently for pulling off this feat, twice.
She chose a time when showrooms would be relatively empty
The accused, Roshini Prashanth, resident of Ramamurthy Nagar, always chose a time when the showrooms would have fewer people. In a fortnight, she stole two scooters from two different Yamaha showrooms at Fraser Town and Banaswadi. After her arrest, she confessed to the crime and said she did it to fund her paralyzed mother's treatment. However, her mother was found to be healthy.
Her scooter lacked number plate prompting patrolling police to approach
After the theft, the showroom managers lodged separate police complaints. Of the two scooters, Roshini was using one and promised to give the other to a medical store employee. When she was parking her scooter near Banaswadi railway station, the patrolling police approached her since her scooter did not have a number plate, as was mentioned in the complaint. She was asked for documents.

She failed to provide any document, so she was brought to the police station, where she confessed to it. "Roshini has been remanded to judicial custody and both vehicles have been handed over to the showrooms," said an officer of Pulakeshinagar police station. He added that Roshini stays with her mother after her father died and after she got reportedly separated from her spouse.
