Bengaluru: Weekend ruined! Major IT hubs, townships to face outages
Even as a new government comes to power, Bengaluru is becoming 'power-less'. Several parts of the city are set to face power cuts over the weekend owing to metro work. The outage will go on starting tomorrow till Monday. Bengaluru has been plagued by frequent power cuts in recent months. People have been lodging complaints on Twitter since the BESCOM helpline apparently remained unreachable.
Electricity supply to be cut for metro workers' safety
BESCOM officials explained that the power cuts are necessary to ensure the safety of metro construction workers. Since the overhead electricity lines can lead to fatal accidents, the power must be snapped off. Another official said that since the power distribution would remain minimal, it will cause a load-shedding. The power cuts have been planned from 10AM to 6PM, confirmed BESCOM officials.
"Bangalore will be the first victim of Cong-JD(S) rule"
Townships and IT hubs like Marathahalli, Whitefield, Challaghatta, Koramangala, Basavanagar, HAL, Annasandra Palya and Kaggadasapura Main Road will suffer electricity-cuts for sure. Areas that may face outages are St Mark's Road, Brigade Road, Adugodi, Hosur Main Road, Tavarekere, Old Madiwala and Silk Board. Meanwhile, people flooded Twitter with criticism of the new government. One said, "Bangalore will be the first victim of Cong-JD(S) rule."
BESCOM blamed KPTCL, rain, wind for outages, without offering solutions
In April, Bengalureans were extremely annoyed for facing unscheduled power cuts since days while BESCOM remained a mute spectator. BESCOM blamed everything other than themselves for the outages: KPTCL (the power distribution body), rains, gusty winds, etc. However, no one offered any solution. Just months ago, both BESCOM MD and Energy minister DK Shivakumar had assured full power during summers.
