Bengaluru to get Asia's biggest brewpub this month!
When Bengaluru-based Ajay Gowda won the Times Food Restaurateur of the Year award in January, he laid out some pretty exciting plans in front of us. One among them was a massive brewpub, which was being set up in Hennur. Now he has kept his promise. Tomorrow, Asia's biggest brewpub, Byg Brewski Brewing Co, spread across 65,000 square feet, would open its gates.
Can accommodate a whopping 2,000 people at a time
Byg Brewski can accommodate a whopping 2,000 people at a time and will have a 6500sqft kitchen! The décor has been done keeping in mind maximum customer satisfaction. Sample this: there will be 16 types of beer on offer, as opposed to the usual 5-6 varieties. A nightclub having a Scottish vibe and three large water-bodies will lend an impression of a natural habitat.
Big Brewsky sure is excited, and so are we!
Taking inspiration from Norse god of brewing, 'Big' becomes 'Byg'
Gowda's brand already has a brewpub in Sarjapur Road named Big Brewsky, which is an extremely popular joint among the city's youngsters. However, for this one, they tweaked the spelling of 'Big' to 'Byg'. Reason? "Byg' (pronounced 'big') takes inspiration from 'Byggvir', the Norse god of brewing. Clearly, we are in the brewing business and "we wanted to make that our lodestone," said Gowda.
"We are focused on the art as much as scale"
The main differentiating factor between Byg Brewsky and others would be the 16 beer varieties. "We aren't going to be Asia's largest craft brewery for no reason. We plan to begin with about 8 and then gradually add to it," Gowda added. Their Cryo Citra Wit style of beer brewing has already found a reputation in India. "We're focused on the art," he beamed.
