Bengaluru to now have pod taxis?
Commissioner of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP), Manjunath Prasad claimed that the civic body is planning to implement pod taxis in the city. According to him, once implemented, the project would be completed within 6-8 months and would cost Rs. 50 crore/kilometre. A tender for the same will be issued in few days. Bengaluru woman duped Amazon of Rs. 70 lakh
A 32-year-old woman was arrested by the Hennur Police for allegedly exploiting Amazon's return policy and eventually robbing it of Rs. 70 lakh. The accused, Deepanwita Ghosh, claimed returns several times after placing her orders since last year, and returned lookalike products instead. She is currently in judicial custody.
Government says Bellandur Lake can be cleaned only by 2020
The Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) commenced the cleaning process of Bellandur Lake on the orders of the NGT. Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department on Tuesday however said that a month is too short to clean the lake and that they would need time till 2020 to do so. NGT will hear the case out on 18th May.
Namma Metro to commence North-South operations soon
KA Manoharan, the commissioner of rail safety (CRS) said he would start inspecting the North-South corridor of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited from Sampige Road to Yelachenahalli. Additionally, the CRS would inspect the Metro-intersection that has come up on over 48,575 square metres of land in Majestic. Metro operations on the North-South corridor are likely to commence from the first week of June.
Karnataka to consult Fali Nirman over Cauvery expert panel
On Tuesday, Water Resources Minister of Karnataka, M.B Patil said the state would consult jurist Fali Nirman on the Centre's proposal to form an expert panel for sharing the Cauvery river water in periods of distress. Mr. Nirman is the head of Karnataka's state legal team on disputes related to sharing water from Cauvery to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.
Chief Secretary currently reviewing Patala Ganga project
Karnataka's ambitious Patala Ganga project is currently being reviewed by the Chief Secretary of the State, Subhash Chandra Khuntia. The project proposes to drill deep into the earth's crevices in order to detect the presence of water sources. The project was pitched by Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Minister H.K. Patil; it was however, put on hold at the last cabinet meeting.
