Bengaluru- Rs. 4.53cr property tax levied on 600sq.ft home
A resident staying in a 600 sq.ft house of Kaveri Nagar of Karisandra ward in South Bengaluru has been charged property tax of Rs. 4.53 crore. Aslam Pasha has been charged Rs. 4,53,32,161 for his ground-plus-one-floor house. This is because of a technical glitch yet to be resolved by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP). Homebuyers to benefit under GST if stamp duty is scrapped
With the Goods and Services Tax to be implemented in Bengaluru by July, developers led by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Association of India (CREDAI), Bengaluru are trying to convince the government to scrap stamp duty and registration fees. With the introduction of GST, homebuyers could be burdened by 10-15% tax if the stamp duty and registration fees aren't abolished.
Bengaluru could break 60-year-record of May rains
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, as of 27th May, Bengaluru had recorded 35 mm of rainfall. Altogether, the city received 236.36 mm of rainfall in May, shadowing the monthly total recorded for May since a decade. More rains have been predicted for the coming days. This May could come close to breaking the all-time record of May-rains registered in 1957 at 287 mm.
Bengaluru girls overtake boys in CBSE exams
The girls in Bengaluru have overtaken the boys in the board exams held by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) this year. In the Chennai region, including Karnataka and neighbouring states, the pass percentage of girls was 94.17% whereas it was 91.47% for boys. The overall pass percentage of students however dipped by 1.03% last year.
Drought-hit Karnataka finds relief in summer rains
Karnataka's summer rains and pre-monsoon showers have come as a great relief to the people disturbed by the scorching heat and water shortage. Unlike last year, the south-interior, central and north-interior areas of the state received moderate to heavy rainfall since March and further since 10th May. Lawyers submit ultimatum to CM to ban chewing tobacco
A Lawyers' collective in Bengaluru submitted an ultimatum to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, seeking a complete ban on chewing tobacco within the next 21 days. Headed by freedom fighter HS Doreswamy, the collective is called Lawyers for Tobacco Control. Failure to implement the ban will lead to the lawyers piling up dead bodies of those dying of tobacco-related diseases in front of CM Siddaramaiah's residence.
