Meet this extraordinary Bengaluru teacher who crowdfunded students' robot-building dream
This Teacher's Day, meet P Sridhar, an extraordinary robotics teacher at Bengaluru's Seva Bharti Government Higher Primary School. He is so passionate about his profession that he crowdfunded and borrowed money to collect Rs. 2.4L for making his students' dream of building robots come true. His contribution helped four students, whose parents are daily-wage workers, showcase their robot-building talent at RoboCup 2017 in Japan.
Sridhar's student-team "Master Minds" participated in RoboCup 2016 too
33-year-old Sridhar is an alumnus of Bengaluru's Indian Institute of Science. After IISc, he worked for an IT firm in Pune; but he always wondered "how children could take to loving Science." In 2014, he returned to Bengaluru and joined as a robotics lab mentor at Seva Bharti. His students Aravind Reddy, Ramakrishna, Lawrence Aga, and A Ramesh represented India at RoboCup 2016 too.
Wanted to teach kids Science: Sridhar
The IISc alumnus said: "After completing my masters in engineering from IISc, I was into a well-paying job. That's when I started volunteering at government schools and in slums. I wanted to teach kids Science, using practical and fun ways."
