Bengaluru: Two men die of bee sting waiting for doctor

Doctors of a government hospital near Doddaballapur, some 45-kms from Bengaluru, have been booked for not treating a farmer and his friend in time. Both of them, stung by bees, had to wait for two hours in the hospital for them to show up. They desperately moved to another hospital where both died. Cops said had the doctors treated them on time, they would have survived.

How did the events unfold?
According to 46-year-old Ramaiah's wife Vijayalakshmi, he visited his relatives' house near Doddaballapur to invite them for a housewarming ceremony. There, a swarm of bees attacked him and seven others, and all were rushed to the Doddaballapur government hospital, but the doctors didn't show up for more than two hours. Desperate for a solution, they were shifted to Nelamangala hospital, situated 25-kms away.
What happened
District health officers insists Ramaiah was treated on time
Upon reaching the hospital around 6pm, Ramaiah was declared brought dead, while his friend died 3 hours later. Cops said they are probing the delay on the hospital's part and has also booked the district health officer Dr Yogesh Gowda under IPC Section 304A. However, Gowda insisted Ramaiah was treated on time but his condition deteriorated, after which he was asked to shift to another hospital.

The Doddaballapur government hospital comes under government's Arogya Bandhu project, which is a health department initiative. These hospitals or primary health centers are run jointly by health department and NGOs, trusts and private medical colleges. Patients are usually handled by interns in these centers.
