Bengaluru police make ISI mark helmets mandatory from February 1
After taking action against half-helmets and insisting children need to wear helmets too, Bengaluru traffic police has now decided to make ISI mark helmets mandatory for all motorists. The police have announced that they would start penalizing the motorists not wearing helmets with the ISI mark, a benchmark set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) from February 1. We will only accept helmets with an ISI mark: Police
Earlier last week, Bengaluru traffic police announced that motorists can only use helmets that meet global standards. However, according to a report, Additional Commissioner of Police (traffic) said, "We will not accept such helmets. We will only accept those with an ISI mark. Somebody operating the Twitter handle has erred. I'll order the post to be removed."
Police to conduct awareness campaign on need for quality helmets
Bengaluru police's directions come days after Mysuru police's campaign against poor quality helmets. Home Minister R Ramalinga Reddy appreciated this move urging to make it mandatory across the state. Adding that the police plan to conduct an awareness campaign on the need for quality helmets, a senior police official said, from February 1, riders not wearing ISI mark helmets will be fined Rs. 100.
