'Wrong medicines' at top Bengaluru hospital leaves 2-year-old bed-ridden, speech-impaired
Alleging gross medical negligence, parents of a two-year-old, along with 40 members of an NGO staged a protest yesterday in front of a Bengaluru hospital. The parents alleged that their son Niranjay Manoj has lost his speech and is now bed-ridden after being administered a wrong medicine by a male nurse-intern in People Tree Hospital, Goreguntepalya, in November'16. Manoj was seven-months old then.
Nurse injected adrenaline instead of using nebulizer
The parents said that Manoj was admitted to the hospital with respiratory problems. On his discharge day, the nurse injected adrenaline, instead of giving it in a nebulizer for Manoj to inhale. "Soon, Niranjay started frothing from the mouth and fell unconscious," said Manoj M V (40), the boy's father, after which he was readmitted to the ICU and was discharged in February 2017.
The nurse who worked on the case speaks up
"On November 29, 2016, at 6 am, I asked the nurse, Chiranjeet Debnath, to give nebulization of levolin and thereafter, adrenaline. After first round of nebulization, Chiranjeet gave the ampoule as an intravenous injection instead of nebulization," said Shyma S, Manoj's nurse.
'Kerala hospital found brain-clot, epileptic abnormalities; People Tree suggested physiotherapy'
The parents and activists lodged a complaint with the Karnataka Medical Council in February 2018. The complaint stated that a Kerala hospital showed a blood clot in brain, right eye damage and epileptic abnormalities, though 'as per the discharge summary of People Tree, the child needed physiotherapy and regular follow-ups.' The doctors or nurses who handled the case no longer work at the hospital.
