Drones, AI, CCTV cameras: Bengaluru ward going to be smart!
Vidyaranyapura in Bengaluru north is on its way to becoming the city's first smart ward. The state government and defense PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) have joined hands to introduce a host of advanced technologies like inter-connected CCTV cameras, mini Unmanned Aerial Vehicles/drones, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT). Vidyaranyapura was chosen because of its proximity to BEL.
City's first ward to go smart
Project to be launched in pilot basis, BBMP commissioner confirms
The project will be implemented on pilot basis and if it is found to be feasible, it will be extended to other wards of Bengaluru and then the entire state. "So far, the plan is to provide both governing agencies and citizens a host of interlinked facilities to create a better ward," said a BEL officer. BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad confirmed the news.
Inter-linked CCTV cameras to help cops track movements
"The idea entails putting in place smart signalling systems for traffic movement, an inter-linked CCTV camera network that enables police to track movement of both people and vehicles across the ward," said the official. He added UAVs might be used for continuous monitoring and review of ongoing projects, along with a host of IoT and AI technologies.
Nearby doctors, power outage in homes: You'll get all information
The residents will get a repository of information on their smartphones through a special software. They can also find out about nearby doctors, where to visit in case of animal bites and even minor details about power supply outage in homes. The project cost was not revealed by either BBMP or BEL but they claimed it'll be launched in a month.
