Tamil Nadu to open its Hosur Airport for Bengalureans
With the intention of addressing the traffic woes of Bengalureans to reach the Bengaluru airport, Tamil Nadu has offered to open up its Hosur Air Station. 60,000 units of donated blood disposed of every year in Karnataka
According to records, over 60,000 blood units are disposed of every year in both government and private blood banks in Karntaka due to damage in blood bags, or for being 'outdated'. Health minister, K R Ramesh Kumar said that a total of 1,88,537 blood units were discarded in the past three-years.
RO plants will be installed in hospitals across Karnataka
With hospitals buying drinking water to provide for their patients and the drought situation adding to their woes, the government took the initiative of installing reverse osmosis (RO) systems in all hospitals across the state. As part of the initiative, RO plants will be installed in 20 district hospitals and 147 taluk hospitals. Rs. 10 crore has been allotted for these plants.
Minor fire breaks out in Bengaluru hospital, 40 patients evacuated
Two fire tenders doused a minor fire that broke out in Bengaluru's Malathi Manipal Hospital, leading to the evacuation of 40 patients by the hospital administration. All the 40 patients have been shifted to another Manipal Hospital. There have been no casualties reported. As per investigations carried out, the fire was caused due to a short circuit on the first floor.
Students of Bengaluru's Maharani College allege harassment by staffer
Atleast 20 girl students of Maharani Arts, Commerce and Management filed a complaint with the Karnataka State Commission for Women, alleging that college's superintendent verbally abused them. The students approached the State Commission after the college principal did not take any action against the superintendent. Chairperson of the State Commission Nagalakshmi has ordered an internal inquiry into the matter.
Bengaluru's pourakarmikas call off strike after govt assures to address demands
Thousands of Bengaluru's pourakarmikas/conservancy workers called off their indefinite strike after government assured that their demands will be addressed including the abolition of contract system. Vinay Sreenivasa, Vice President of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Contract Workers' Association said a meeting will be held with Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on June 20 to finalize the modalities for regularization of services of contract conservancy workers.
