Dump of bio-medical waste discovered at Alahalli Lake
Bio-medical waste stuffed into 10 rice rags was discovered dumped near Lake Alahalli on Sunday. The waste included syringes, blood and urine samples. Alahalli Lake and Neighbourhood Development Trust lodged a complaint with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) on Monday. A Managing Trustee of the ALNDT said batch numbers on the syringes would help in tracing the person to whom everything was sold.
This app could assist Bengaluru's doctors in real time
The Indian Medical Association's Karnataka branch has collaborated with a free digital mobile app for doctors named 'Whitecoats'. The app will help doctors to receive updates; they will also have access to presentations and cases for quicker diagnosis of rare diseases. Medical practitioners will also be able to share knowledgeable experiences with their patients, bridging the gap in awareness about certain diseases.
BJP leader Vimala Gowda passes away from heart problems
On Monday, former Karnataka legislative deputy chairperson and senior BJP leader Vimala Gowda passed away due to a heart attack. Gowda was admitted in the Narayana Hrudyalaya since March for illnesses related to the heart and breathing problems. The three-time council member's last rites are scheduled to be performed tomorrow (Wednesday). Gowda is survived by her husband and two sons.
Infosys collaborates with resource platform to promote culture, history
On Monday, the Infosys Foundation announced its partnership with Sahapedia, an online resource to assist the development of an engaging web module on the arts, culture and histories of India. The aim of Infosys is to provide multimedia content comprising of articles, interviews, photographs etc. A corpus grant of Rs. 2 crore has been invested by Infosys towards this initiative for 25 years.
Pre-school and Class 1 come under RTE domain: Court ruling
On Monday, the Bengaluru High Court ruled that the allocating of students to private institutions (at pre-school and Class 1 levels) by the education department is legal under the Right to Education Act. According to the judge, 25% reservation in Class 1 and pre-school at entry levels for children belonging to the weaker and disadvantaged sections of society is justifiable.
