Bengaluru Police will soon have its own bomb squad
Currently, Bengaluru has just one Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) which belongs to the state intelligence and not the city police. According to Police Commissioner Praveen Sood, Bengaluru police will soon acquire its own BDDS. Along with them, KIA too is obtaining equipment to raise a BDDS for the airport. Bengaluru may face water rationing soon
Water levels in Karnataka reservoirs have reached dead storage levels; the government has decided to stop supplying water for agricultural purposes. Farmers are being discouraged to pump water out of canals and reservoirs. Currently, Bengaluru has enough drinking water supply only till the 15th of June. The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has been permitted to incorporate the rationing of water.
Development Minister censures officials for delaying important road projects
K.J George, Bengaluru's Development and Town Planning (BDTP) Minister on Monday carried out an inspection on 15 developmental projects across the city. Amongst these were the Okalipuram signal-free corridor and grade separators along the West of Chord Road, which were supposed to be completed by 2016. Mr. George pulled up and admonished the contractors and officials working on the West of Chord Road.
HC disposes RWA's petition against pollution
The Karnataka High Court on Monday dismissed a PIL filed by M.S Ramaiah North City Layour Residents Welfare Association, asking them to submit a fresh petition to the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB). The petition sought remedial measures against sound pollution arising from diesel-generators and air-conditioned cooling units at the Manyata Embassy Business Tech Park in Nagawara.
Sessions Court convicts 3 arrested in Mangaluru's first sleeper-cell raid
3 out of 7 suspects arrested in a police raid in Mangaluru's first sleeper cell in 2008 were convicted by a sessions court on Monday. Syed Mohammed Naushad (26), Ahmed Bava (34) and Fakir Bava were declared guilty under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967, Explosives Act (2013) amongst other sections. The punishment for them will be announced on Wednesday.
