Bengaluru: Karnataka gears up for Vidhana Soudha's diamond jubilee
Karnataka is all set to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Vidhana Soudha on October 25th. According to reports, a special joint session of the state legislature will be held from dusk to dawn, highlighting Karnataka's growth. 1,500 classic Kannada films to be restored
The Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy (KCA) has decided to restore 1,500 classic Kannada films produced in the last 80 years. The project is expected to cost Rs. 6 crore, of which the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) will contribute Rs. 1 crore; Rs. 2 crore has been reserved by the Karnataka government in its budget. The KCA will form a four-member committee for this project.
Rs. 70 lakh stolen from 11 ATMs
Bengaluru Police are currently hunting down a 24-year-old accused of stealing Rs. 70 lakh from 11 ATMs. According to the police, Johnson (the suspect) worked with a cash replenishing company, where he was currently serving his notice period. Johnson's employment was terminated by his company for a criminal breach of trust. A suspected accomplice has been arrested and is being interrogated for Johnson's whereabouts.
Bengaluru's Indira Canteen services to extend across Karnataka
On October 11th, the Karnataka cabinet decided to further the facilities of Bengaluru's Indira Canteens to different parts of the state having a population of over 1 lakh. The canteens will be set up in vicinities like government hospitals, bus stands, railway stations etc. According to reports, 146 such locations have been chosen, where 246 Indira Canteens will function January 2018 onwards.
Bengaluru's lethal potholes claim 5 lives in a fortnight
Killer potholes in Bengaluru have led to the death of 5 residents in the last fortnight. Following up with the Chief Minister's order, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike will procure the names of contractors and the roads they built by this weekend. According to BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad, contractors of these roads will be prohibited from bidding for future tenders floated by the body.
Vidhana Soudha to serve food for Karnataka's MLAs, MLCs
Speaker of the Vidhana Soudha, KB Koliwad announced that members of the legislative assembly and legislative council will be served lunch. According to reports, this was announced to discourage absenteeism usually observed in the post-lunch session. The Speaker said that the health conditions of the members such as diabetes and heart problems would be considered while preparing the food.
