China made hi-tech drones seized in Bengaluru
Last week, 10 drones capable of flying at 6,000 metres with a half-kg payload and equipped with a high-end satellite navigation system were seized from a passenger at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). Karnataka's school children could get chocolate milk under scheme
Children studying under the Right to Education (RTE) quota across several schools across Karnataka may be able to enjoy chocolate milk five days a week under the Ksheera Bhagya scheme. According to reports, the Karnataka Milk Federation is gearing up to distribute flavoured milk powder to Karnataka's schools June onwards, after serving 3 varieties of flavoured milk across schools on a pilot basis.
CM Siddaramaiah- IT firms should stay in East Bengaluru
On 15th May, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited East Bengaluru to supervise the rejuvenation work of the polluted Lake Bellandur. During the visit, he raised concerns about allegations that tech companies were exiting East Bengaluru because of its bad reputation for infrastructure and garbage. He further added that his government has provided several facilities to the IT industry and will continue to resolve all problems.
Bengaluru gets power-generating sewage treatment plant
On 15th May, Bengaluru got its first sewage treatment plant (STP) which generates 1MW of power using a biogas engine. The STP, with a capacity of 60 million litres per day (MLD) will reduce inflow of the sewage into the highly polluted Bellandur lake by at least 120MLD. It was inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the Koramangala-Challaghatta Valley.
Karnataka can expect monsoons by May end
Following the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)'s prediction that monsoon will hit the coast of Karnataka in the first week of June, comes an announcement by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), which has predicted that Karnataka will receive rainfall by May end. According to the Director of KSNDMC, Karnataka has already witnessed good pre-monsoon showers and will receive good monsoon showers too.
Shivaji Nagar to get Metro station in place of playground
As part of the Phase-II construction of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), an underground Metro station will be built near the Shivajinagar bus stand. The process of acquiring the land for the project has already been initiated by the BMRCL; BMRCL would need a part of a playground for the same. Currently, the BMTC operates 3,200 trips from the bus stop.
BMRCL fined Rs. 5 lakh for dumping concrete into lake
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Company Limited (BMRCL) was levied a penalty of Rs. 5 lakh for dumping concrete into Mylasandra Lake, located in the forest area between Uttarahalli and Kengeri. BMRCL contractors were caught dumping concrete waste on 9th May; it was later realized that the operation had been going on for a month. This 16.2-acre lake is maintained by the Karnataka Forest Department.
