Bengaluru: Vagabonds arrested for molesting techie, assaulting her friend
Two vagabonds were arrested yesterday for allegedly molesting and assaulting a techie and her friend in Bengaluru recently. Cops said the accused got angry when the techie's friend blew cigarette-smoke on their faces and a fight ensued. The girl was harassed when she intervened. The couple got assaulted again, when the same duo followed them and started pelting stones at them near her home.
Incidents spotlight on Bengaluru Police's lackadaisical attitude
Though TOI reports that both the incidents were committed by the same duo, other reports suggest that the second incident near her home was done by another gang. Discrepancies aside, the point of concern is the lackadaisical attitude shown by Bengaluru Police. None of the two police jurisdictions involved, HAL and Indiranagar, were willing to take down a complaint, citing post-election arrangements.
Tracking the scooter's registration number, the duo were arrested
The duo finally approached the JB Nagar police station, and there too they were turned away. The woman, by now enraged, went to the Police Commissioner's office, which directed JB Nagar station to take action and arrest the duo. After a hunt lasting almost 20 days, the accused, Billal Hussein (23) and Ali Ahmed (28), were arrested after their scooter's registration number was tracked.
Inquiry initiated against erring police stations, action soon
The men have reportedly confessed to their crime, echoing the version in the complaint, said Ajay Hilori, DCP. The HAL police station has been directed by police chief T. Suneel Kumar to investigate the second incident that happened near the techie's house. Meanwhile, an inquiry has been initiated against the erring police stations-HAL, Indiranagar and JB Nagar-and necessary action would be taken, Kumar emphasized.
