Bengaluru to get two more railway tracks on Cantonment-Whitefield stretch
Bringing cheer to 62,000 daily commuters, the Railway Ministry sanctioned Rs. 492.87 crores for laying down two more railways tracks from Bengaluru Cantonment to Whitefield. The lines will be put one on either side of the existing two lines. The project will take 2-3 years to complete. The Quadrupling Project was lying dormant since 1997-98, but after this railway push, it will start immediately.

Busy 25-km stretch involving six important stations
This busy stretch of 25-Kms will involve 6 stations - Bengaluru Cantonment, Bengaluru East, Baiyyapannahalli, Krishnarajapuram, Hoodi and Whitefield. South Western Railway (SWR) is elated with this development. "All metros in India have more than two lines. Bengaluru did not have even a double line. As a result, trains had to be stopped to make way for others," said E. Vijaya, Chief PRO, SWR.
It's raining developments from Railways
The Railways are mulling replicating this between Cantonment and KSR Bengaluru, but "finding land may be problematic," an official said. Recently, SWR announced 12 trains between Bengaluru-Mysuru with AC traction, meaning trains will no longer be late. 8 local trains were started this month, including two between Baiyappanahalli and Whitefield. Additionally, SWR launched UTS app in February to do unreserved ticketing.
