Bengaluru: Robot excavators arriving soon to save flooded city
What's the story
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is soon going to procure multi-purpose robot excavators to dredge and clean the clogged drains of the flooded city.
BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad said they have submitted a Rs. 2cr proposal to acquire the robot excavators.
He added dredging processes could be completed quickly by using such machines so that normalcy returns to the city soon.

Heavy rains batter the city; civic authorities plan rescue operations
Bengaluru receives an average of 120mm rainfall in August every year, but this time it received 249.21mm.
It has already received a heavy rainfall of 86mm in the first three days of September.
While almost every part of the city is affected, Hosur-Sarjapur Road (HSR) Layout and Shantinagar were the worst hit; sewage system in HSR Layout can handle only 8mm of rainfall.

BBMP Manjunath Commissioner Prasad said: "We had identified properties that encroached upon storm water drainages in the city and cleared 1,255 of them. The drive for the remaining properties will resume soon."
