Bangalore Golf-Club maybe shifted after ball enters CM's premises again
When HD Kumaraswamy was the Karnataka CM in 2006, a golf ball flew from the Bangalore Golf Club (BGC) and landed in his residence. The same occurred again yesterday, when a ball hit an IPS officer's car's windshield parked near his JP Nagar Phase-III residence, breaking it. This has prompted Deputy CM G Parameshwara to mull shifting of the golf course to another location.
Incident a 'security risk', although no one got hurt
Parameshwara said it's a 'security risk', although no one was hurt in the incident. The damaged MUV/minivan belongs to ACP (East) Seemanth Kumar Singh, who was inside Krishna, Kumaraswamy's residence, along with Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi and Parameshwara. They were discussing Bengaluru's issues. There were a few drivers and police personnel standing near the cars, when the ball brushed past them by mere inches.
'Common occurrence,' say Krishna staff; 'happens rarely,' claims BGC captain
The staff at Krishna maintains such occurrences are common. "Golf balls from the course fall all over here, on the terrace, near the parking lot and the lobby. They happen more during weekends," they said. Meanwhile, Shiv Pradeep, BGC Captain, termed it as "a freak accident" which "happens rarely." "We've put up safety nets. We'll also reimburse for damage done to vehicles," he added.
Gaping holes in the 100-foot high safety net: Reports
However, reports claim there are gaping holes in BGC's safety net, especially at the Windsor Yield Junction, which poses risk to pedestrians and motorists. Officials attached to High Grounds police station, under which BGC falls, said the ball managed to land inside Krishna after getting deflected off a tree and breaching the 100-foot high safety net. An inquiry will be conducted.
Established in 1876, BGC is among country's most-compact 18-hole golf-courses
BGC was established in 1876 and used as an army training area. It was redesigned in 2000 and declared a public authority in 2012. The 60-acre course is one of the country's most compact 18-hole golf courses. However, of late it has lost its sheen.
