Bengaluru lake fire doused by Army after seven hours
After the civic administration of Bengaluru failed to douse the fire at Bellandur lake on Friday, Army had to be called in to take control of the situation. The army today took to Twitter and wrote that the situation was brought under control, after tireless efforts of over seven hours as, "alert troops saved the fire from spreading into the heavily populated civilian area."
We will write to the Chief Minister, says Army
According to reports, the army will write to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to look into the issue regarding the repeated fire in the lake over the years, said Lt Gen Vipan Gupta, commandant, ASC Centre and College on Saturday. He further added that around 5,000 personnel were deployed and pressed into service to bring the fire under control.
This is not the first time lake caught fire
The lake in South East Bengaluru caught fire on Friday around 10 am, as nearby residents reported the incident after they spotted smoke emitting from the severely-polluted lake. This is not the first time the lake caught fire. It has been in news since 2015 when the water body caught fire due to the formation of flammable methane gas over the last two years.
