Bengaluru: 6-year-old allegedly molested by school janitor. When'll this stop?
In yet another case of sexual assault in schools, a janitor was held yesterday for allegedly molesting a Class 1 student in a washroom. The incident took place in a reputed Bengaluru school that has seen protests over the safety of children inside the premises earlier too. The child's father had lodged a complaint with Hennur police on Wednesday, the day it allegedly happened.
Worked as a janitor for seven years in the school
Srinivas (42), working in the school for seven years as a janitor, allegedly followed the kid as he entered the washroom. He let him go after a few minutes. The child shared his ordeal with his father, after which he lodged a complaint with the police. Cops filed a case under the POCSO Act. They have obtained CCTV footage and are investigating his background.
School management 'shocked,' terminates the accused
"We are shocked by the incident and we have terminated (the accused's) services. Some of the female support staff are allowed inside even while children are in the toilet, male members are not," school officials said. The school authorities are yet to be questioned.
The city has been shamed earlier as well
Bengaluru has seen such cases earlier too. In July last year, a three-year-old girl was allegedly molested by the driver of her school van. In September, a 4-year-old girl was allegedly molested by a security guard in her school. Her mother found out when she fell sick. Just eight months ago, a 3-year-old was sexually harassed by a supervisor of a Marathahalli-based nursery.
