Volkswagen recalls 60,000 EVs in US over software glitch
What's the story
German automaker Volkswagen has started recalling over 60,000 electric cars in the United States. The recall involves both Volkswagen and Audi models.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that the recalled vehicles have a defect that prevents them from displaying certain gear positions.
This could potentially cause the cars to roll away if the parking brake isn't engaged, increasing crash risk.

Models affected by the recall
Notably, the recall only affects the Audi Q4 e-tron and Volkswagen ID.4 models, both of which are all-electric vehicles.
The gear indicator issue stems from a software glitch, according to Volkswagen's safety recall report.
The firm first learned of the issue in August after five incidents were reported outside the US.
Previous recall
Second recall by Volkswagen
Notably, this is the second recall launched by Volkswagen in two months. Earlier, the company had recalled some 30,000 vehicles in the US over a malfunctioning rear-view camera. The previous recall mainly impacted Audi Q3 models, along with some Volkswagen Tiguan and Arteon cars.
