GM recalls 90,000 Cadillac, Chevrolet cars due to transmission issue
What's the story
General Motors (GM) has recalled more than 90,000 vehicles under its Cadillac and Chevrolet brands in the US.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed the information in a recent announcement.
The recall affects certain model years of the Cadillac CT4, CT5, CT6, and select Chevrolet Camaro units.
The problem stems from internal transmission damage that could lead to the front wheels locking up unexpectedly.
Concern
What is the issue?
The transmission damage presents a major safety risk. It could cause the front wheels to lock up, thereby raising the risk of a crash. GM has promised to fix the issue by offering free installation of "transmission control module monitoring software" at its dealerships.
List
Affected Cadillac and Chevrolet models
The recall covers a number of Cadillac and Chevrolet models from various years. It includes the 2020 and 2021 Cadillac CT4, the 2020 and 2021 CT5, and the 2019 and 2020 CT6 models.
Some Chevrolet Camaro cars from 2020 to 2022 also fall under this recall.
Owners of these vehicles should remain updated on further instructions from GM on the matter. They are expected to be mailed on April 21.
