What's the story
Volvo has officially unveiled the ES90, its first electric sedan. The Swedish automaker is pitching the five-meter-long ES90 as its technological flagship.
The car promises 700km of range, making it a strong competitor to the likes of BMW i5 and Mercedes-Benz EQE.
With advanced features and powerful computing capabilities, it will be extensively updated over-the-air throughout its lifetime.
Design details
ES90's design and features
Despite its sedan profile, Volvo claims the ES90 combines the ground clearance and raised driving position of an SUV with a fastback body.
The car is actually a five-door model with a rear hatchback.
It has been styled in line with the EX90 and is touted as the most aerodynamic Volvo ever, boasting a drag coefficient of 0.25.
Performance specs
ES90's powertrain and battery options
Built on Volvo's SPA2 electric architecture, the ES90 comes with three powertrain options and two battery sizes.
The standard model gets a 328hp/480Nm rear-wheel-drive single motor, while the all-wheel-drive twin motor variant offers 443hp/670Nm of output.
The performance version packs a punch with a whopping 671hp of power and 870Nm of torque.
The performance variant can go from zero to 100km/h in just four seconds.
Tech advancements
ES90's charging capabilities and tech stack
The ES90 offers 88kWh and 102kWh battery options for a range of up to 700km.
Volvo has also given the car rapid charging capabilities, enabling it to get 300km range in just 10 minutes.
The vehicle also features Volvo's Superset tech stack, which is powered by dual NVIDIA Orin processors that can handle over 500 trillion operations per second.
Interior highlights
ES90's interior and safety features
The ES90's interior is similar to that of the EX90, with a light and airy feel and premium Scandinavian trims. An electronic panoramic roof is also included.
The vehicle is loaded with passive and active safety equipment, including a LiDAR sensor for automated driving.
It will be available in different markets at different times, with UK buyers having to wait around one year for deliveries of right-hand-drive ES90s.
