Volkswagen T-Cross facelift unveiled: It is updated Taigun for India?
Volkswagen has introduced a mid-cycle refresh of its T-Cross SUV, specifically designed for emerging markets. The updated model, which shares many features with the Taigun sold in India, has been available in Brazil since April 2019. This facelift brings several cosmetic changes to both the exterior and interior of the vehicle, along with significant feature updates.
Facelift model boasts enhanced features and tech
The most significant changes in the T-Cross facelift are found in its features list. The top-tier variants now include Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) tech, offering autonomous braking, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. Additionally, high-end trims come with a panoramic sunroof, an 8-way powered driver's seat, a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen that also controls the climate system, and soft-touch materials on the doors.
Exterior and interior changes
The exterior of the T-Cross has been subtly updated with new front and rear bumpers, reprofiled LED headlights, fresh LED highlighting in the tail-lights, and new 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin features a revised dashboard design with restyled AC vents and new upholstery for the seats bearing the T-Cross logo. Despite these changes, the updated T-Cross continues to be powered by VW's 1.0-liter turbo-petrol and 1.4-liter turbo-petrol engines from its TSI family.
Future plans for the Indian market
Volkswagen has not officially announced any plans to introduce a facelift for the Taigun in India. Instead, the German automaker is focusing on launching the seven-seat Tayron in India in 2025 and an affordable electric vehicle (EV) in 2026. Volkswagen is also seeking a local partner to help reduce expernditure on its upcoming range of low-cost EVs based on the MEB21G EV architecture. The company is also considering introducing the GTI brand to India.
