In a proud moment for German automaker Volkswagen, the ID.4 electric car has been crowned the 2021 World Car of the Year (WCOTY) at the World Car Awards. The vehicle, which beat contenders like Toyota Yaris and Honda e for the coveted title, impressed the judges with its contemporary design, clever space usage, and impressive performance as an e-SUV. Commenting on the win, Volkswagen Board Member for Marketing and Sales, Klaus Zellmer, said, "Volkswagen ID.4 is truly a world car because it's being sold in Europe, China, and the US, and it's something that's testifying that VW is really serious about the way to Zero, about carbon neutrality for our future business, and about the transformation, this company is planning in our strategy going forward."
The car sports narrow LED headlights
The Volkswagen ID.4 is built on the Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) platform and has a sloping roofline, a muscular bonnet, a sleek grille, LED matrix headlights, and a wide air dam. On the sides, it is flanked by blacked-out B-pillars, ORVMs, and designer wheels. 3D LED taillamp clusters with an integrated dynamic turn signal, grace the rear end of the vehicle.
The vehicle has a tech-loaded cabin
Volkswagen ID.4 has a spacious cabin with a panoramic glass roof, 12-way power-adjustable front seats with massage function, ambient lighting, and a multifunctional flat-bottom steering wheel. It houses a 5.3-inch digital gauge display and a 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment console with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For passengers' safety, an airbag between the front seats, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning are available.
It promises a range of 520km/charge
Volkswagen ID.4 draws power from an electric motor and a 77kWh Lithium-ion battery pack. The setup generates 201hp/310Nm. The SUV can sprint from 0-100km/h in 8.5 seconds, clock a top-speed of 160km/h, and has a range of 520km/charge. The company says that the battery can be charged for 30 minutes using a 125kW DC fast charger to deliver a range of 320km.

In the US, the Volkswagen ID.4 electric SUV carries a starting price-tag of $41,190 (approximately Rs. 31 lakh). However, no details pertaining to its pricing and availability in India are currently available.
