UP to introduce double-decker electric buses during Navratri festival
The Uttar Pradesh government is gearing up to roll out a fleet of electric buses, including some double-decker ones. This move is part of a bigger plan to amp up public transport and cut down on pollution. State Transport Minister Daya Shankar Singh has confirmed that the tendering process for around 100 busses is all set to go.
Buses to accommodate up to 65 passengers
These double-decker electric buses can hold up to 65 passengers at once. They'll kick off their journey in Lucknow during the Navratri festival, which is in the first week of October. After rolling out these first 100 buses, there's talk of adding even more to the fleet. Plus, the government is looking into fare options to keep it wallet-friendly for everyone.
Plans to expand electric bus service
The Uttar Pradesh government has huge plans for these electric buses. After their debut in Lucknow, the service will be extended to other major districts in the state. There's even talk of intercity electric buses being used for the Kumbh Mela next year. The goal is to have everything up and running by December, so that the buses are ready for action before Kumbh starts on January 12.
Electric buses to boost tourism in Lucknow
These double-decker buses are not just for daily commutes. They are a great way to see the sights in Lucknow too. Tourists can buy one ticket and use it to visit various attractions like the Bhool Bhulaiya, Residency, and Zoo. Plus, they get an amazing view from the upper deck of the bus!
Reducing pollution to ensure cleaner environment
One of the best perks of these electric buses is how they can cut down pollution. As Singh puts it, "The primary feature of electric buses is that they will help curb pollution, ensuring a cleaner environment." To back this up, the government's got a plan in place to set up charging stations at about 2,000 spots, like petrol pumps and bus stands.
