Triumph Trident 660 recalled in India and US: Here's why
British automaker Triumph has recalled 314 units of its Trident 660 motorbike in the US manufactured between February 7 and May 15, 2021. The affected models might face an issue with the side-stand, which could bend over time and pose a safety hazard. The vehicle is also being recalled in India, but the exact number of affected units is currently unavailable.
Why does this story matter?
In the affected units of the Triumph Trident 660, the side-stands were manufactured using the wrong material by a third-party supplier. Over a period of time, the stands might bend, make the vehicle unstable and tip it over causing a mishap. The Trident is the highest-selling Triumph bike in India, and this recall may tarnish its image in the market.
The bike has cast aluminium wheels and an underbelly exhaust
The Triumph Trident 660 sits on a tubular steel perimeter frame and sports a stepped-up seat, a muscular fuel tank, an underbelly exhaust, and a circular headlight. The bike packs a TFT instrument console, a full-LED setup for lighting, and rides on cast aluminium wheels. It can store 14-liter of fuel, has a wheelbase of 1,407mm, and tips the scales at 189kg.
It is fueled by an 80hp, 660cc engine
The Triumph Trident 660 draws power from a BS6-compliant 660cc, liquid-cooled, in-line, 3-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The mill generates a maximum power of 79.8hp at 10,250rpm and a peak torque of 64Nm at 6,250rpm.
It gets 41mm inverted front forks
To ensure the rider's safety, the Triumph Trident 660 is equipped with disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels, along with dual-channel ABS and two riding modes: Rain and Road. Suspension duties on the two-wheeler are taken care of by 41mm inverted forks on the front end and a mono-shock unit with preload adjustment on the rear side.
Triumph Trident 660: Pricing
In India, the Triumph Trident 660 carries a price-tag of Rs. 7.45 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The middleweight roadster bike made its way to our shores in April last year.
