Toyota Fortuner gets 'Leader Edition' variant in India: Check features
Toyota has introduced a new variant of its popular Fortuner SUV, the Leader Edition, in India. The model is now available for bookings through the company's official website, or authorized dealerships across the country. The Leader Edition distinguishes itself with dual-tone exterior paint, black alloy wheels, and front and rear bumper spoilers. It also offers three new dual-tone color combinations: Super White with a black roof, Silver Metallic with a black top, and Platinum Pearl White with a black roof.
Engine and configuration details
The Fortuner Leader Edition is powered by a 2.8-liter diesel engine, which can be mated with either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. This variant is only available in the 4x2 configuration. Sabari Manohar, Vice President of Sales-Service-Used Car Business at Toyota, said, "The Fortuner Leader Edition is a testament to Toyota's resolute commitment to providing best-in-class offerings, leading the way with power and style."
Additional features and interior details
The Leader Edition comes equipped with additional features such as a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), auto-folding mirrors, and a wireless charger. The interior is enhanced with dual-tone seat covers among other premium features. While the official price for the Leader Edition has not been disclosed by Toyota, it is tipped to be slightly higher than the standard Fortuner 4x2's ₹35.93-38.21 lakh range (ex-showroom).
Market performance and rivals
The powertrain of the Fortuner Leader Edition delivers 500Nm of torque when coupled with the 6-speed automatic gearbox, and 420Nm when using manual. Since its debut in 2009, Toyota has sold over 2.5 lakh Fortuner units in India. The company reported a growth of 48% in FY2023-24, with wholesales reaching 2.65 lakh units. The Fortuner continues to rival models like MG Gloster and is set to face competition from the returning Ford Endeavour, likely to be rebranded as the Everest.
