Toyota is 2020's most searched car brand: Details here
As per a report by Burrow, Toyota overtook BMW to become the world's most searched car brand, beating the top 20 famous automakers, in 2020. The agency compiled the report by analyzing Google trends data for the years 2018-2020, from 158 nations. Notably, Hyundai subsidiary Kia Motors was the most searched carmaker in India, thanks to its Seltos and Sonet models. Here's our roundup.
Nearly 35% search results were in Toyota's favor
Toyota's rise to the top of the global rankings was easy as more than a third of the search results were in its favor (34.8%). What comes as a surprise is that in 2018, 41.1% of the results were in the automaker's favor, but for reasons unknown, it plummeted to just 17.7% the following year. An improved vehicle portfolio might have triggered this uptick.
BMW maintained a huge lead across three years
Despite ending as a runner-up in 2020, BMW's overall lead was huge across three years. In 2019, almost 74.8% market share belonged to the company, but the consequent year, it dropped to a meager 21.5%. Over a three-year time span, 38.3% of the search results were in the company's favor, compared to 31.3% of Toyota.
Renewed momentum aided Kia in occupying pole position in India
Meanwhile, in India, two reasons can be cited as the reason behind Kia's popularity- the launch of the brand in 2019 and renewed momentum the following year.
Toyota and Kia should launch these cars here this year
On a related note, Toyota is likely to launch eight new cars in India this year. They include the Yaris and Corolla in March and the C-HR in June. Further, the Rush, Avanza, HiAce, Mirai, and Raize should debut here in the second half of 2021. Separately, Kia should launch its Stinger, Sportage, Xceed, Sorento, Rio, and Picanto models here, around the same time.
