    What's the story

The Indian automotive market, renowned for its dynamism, experienced notable changes in sedan sales in April 2024.

The month saw a total of 30,190 units sold, marking a slight dip of 5.52% in comparison to the same period last year.

Maruti Suzuki's Dzire emerged as the top performer while other models like Hyundai's Aura, Honda's Amaze, and Tata's Tigor/EV faced declines.

    Performance

Maruti Suzuki Dzire dominates, Hyundai Aura struggles

Maruti Suzuki Dzire led the sedan segment in April 2024, with a significant sales increase of 56.19% year-on-year, selling 15,825 units and securing a dominant market share of 52.42%.

In contrast, Hyundai Aura experienced a dip in sales by 10.99% YoY, selling only 4,526 units during the same period.

This stark difference highlights the varying fortunes of different models within the Indian sedan market.

    Declines

Honda Amaze and Tata Tigor/EV face substantial declines

Honda's Amaze and Tata's Tigor/EV also struggled in April 2024, reflecting the challenging landscape for sedan manufacturers in India. The Amaze saw a substantial decline of 47.07% YoY, while the Tigor/EV faced a decrease of 31.74%.

    Worry

Volkswagen Virtus and Hyundai Verna grapple with sales slumps

Volkswagen's Virtus and Hyundai's Verna were not immune to the challenging market conditions in April.

The Virtus experienced a sales drop of 20.12%, while the Verna saw a staggering decline of 60.73%.

These significant slumps indicate potential shifts in consumer preferences or market dynamics, affecting even well-established models within the Indian sedan market.

    Growth

Toyota Camry defies trend with exceptional growth

Despite the challenging market conditions, some models managed to defy the trend. Toyota Camry demonstrated exceptional growth in April, with sales skyrocketing by an impressive 184.13% on a YoY basis.
