Tesla recalls 9,000 Model X SUVs over defective roof trim
Tesla has issued a recall for 9,136 units of its Model X SUV in the US, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The reason behind this recall is a potential defect in the roof trim that could detach and increase crash risk. This marks an unusual physical recall for the Austin-based automaker, which typically addresses vehicle issues through over-the-air software updates.
Tesla's recall record
In the first half of this year, Tesla has recalled almost 2.6 million vehicles due to safety concerns, as per data from recall management platform developer Bizzycar. This figure is only surpassed by Ford, which has recalled about 3.6 million vehicles in the US. The NHTSA said that the front and center roof cosmetic trim pieces on some Model X SUVs might have been attached without primer, leading to potential separation from the vehicle over time.
Issue will be fixed at no extra cost
Tesla has committed to addressing this issue at no cost to the vehicle owners. The company plans to test the adhesion of the roof trim and reattach any necessary pieces. This strategy aims to eliminate any hazards caused by the defect, reduce crash risks, and ensure that customer safety remains a top priority for the automaker.
