Tesla recalls all Cybertrucks over faulty accelerator pedals
Tesla has initiated a recall of all 3,878 Cybertrucks delivered to date due to reports of defective accelerator pedals. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed this action. CEO Elon Musk stated that Tesla was "being very cautious" and informed the NHTSA that no accidents or injuries had been linked to the issue. The company later admitted that the pedal could dislodge and become trapped in the footwell trim.
Discovery and investigation of the accelerator pedal issue
Tesla first became aware of the accelerator pedal issue when a customer reported an incident on March 31, followed by another report on April 3. This led to a pause in deliveries as Tesla investigated the problem. After thorough testing, Tesla initiated a recall on April 12. The company found that an "unapproved change introduced lubricant (soap) to aid in the component assembly of the pad onto the accelerator pedal," which reduced pad retention.
Tesla's response and future measures for Cybertruck
In response to the accelerator pedal issue, Tesla has committed to replace or modify the pedals in all existing Cybertrucks. The company also informed NHTSA that it has begun producing Cybertrucks with a redesigned accelerator pedal. Additionally, corrections are being made to vehicles currently in transit or at delivery centers. This marks the second recall for the Cybertruck, which began shipping late last year.
