Tesla Cybertruck shuts down unexpectedly after car wash
Tesla Cybertruck, a vehicle known for its all-terrain capabilities, has faced an unexpected issue during a routine car wash, as reported by Jalopnik. The vehicle shut down and the central console went blank, rendering the 3,000kg pickup akin to a "giant brick." The incident was shared by TikTok user Captain.ad who stated, "I'm about two and half months in and 3,400 miles (nearly 5,471 kilometers)," adding that "it's not working right now."
Reboot resulted in weird popping sound
The owner attempted to reboot the vehicle's screen by pressing two buttons on the steering wheel, which resulted in an unusual noise from the dashboard. He described it as a "weird popping sound." The Cybertruck has previously faced issues such as significant panel gaps, cracked "armor glass," malfunctioning steering controls, and tarnished stainless steel. In Captain.ad's case, his truck resumed functioning after a full system reboot, which took about five hours to complete.
Official recommendations for Cybertruck wash
Tesla advises against washing the truck under direct sunlight due to potential corrosion of the stainless steel. The company recommends using a "Car Wash Mode" which seals all windows and deactivates wipers to prevent damage. Furthermore, owners are urged to use only "touchless car washes" that avoid physical contact with the Cybertruck's exterior. The manual warns that failure to activate Car Wash Mode could lead to damage not covered by warranty, and damage from improper washing is also not covered.
