Tesla Cybertruck receives off-road software update: Check what's new
Tesla's Cybertruck has received a new software update, introducing an Off-Road Mode to the electric vehicle. This enhancement was announced via a post on Tesla's official Cybertruck X account, featuring an image of the Off-Road Mode interface with various settings. The upgrade delivers on the 4x4-style capabilities initially promised during the truck's unveiling, offering owners more detailed off-road functionality.
Meet Overland Mode and Baja Mode
The Off-Road Mode introduces two primary settings: Overland Mode and Baja Mode. Overland Mode is designed for steady handling and superior traction on diverse terrains, such as rock, gravel, snow, and sand. Conversely, Baja Mode enhances balance and allows the vehicle to maneuver more freely. These features significantly expand the Cybertruck's off-road capabilities.
Additional features and insights
Wes Morrill, the chief Cybertruck engineer, shared further details about the update. According to Morrill, the app provides a brief summary of the vehicle's status, swipeable camera feeds from on-board cameras, and one-touch controls for off-road features. The update also includes a Wade Mode that elevates the truck for navigating deep water conditions. However, this feature is not covered under warranty, despite CEO Elon Musk's previous claims of brief aquatic operation capabilities.
Cybertruck's new CyberTent mode and Basecamp tent add-on
The software update also introduces the CyberTent mode. This feature aligns the truck with the horizon, operates the air conditioning system, keeps the tonneau cover open, and ensures power supply to the outlets. It is specifically made to work in conjunction with Tesla's Basecamp tent add-on, a $3,000 kit previously sold to Cybertruck owners, before the necessary software was available. This addition further enhances the versatility of Tesla's electric vehicle.
