Tata Nexon to get panoramic sunroof to battle growing competition
Tata Motors is reportedly planning to introduce a panoramic sunroof on its Nexon SUV. The move follows the recent addition of this feature in rival Mahindra XUV 3XO, which has gained over 50,000 bookings in just one hour since order books opened. Currently, the Nexon features a single-pane sunroof with prices starting from ₹9.80 lakh. The new panoramic sunroof is expected to be available only on higher trims, potentially leading to a slight increase in prices.
Comparison with Mahindra XUV 3XO
The Mahindra XUV 3XO is currently the only compact SUV in India that offers a panoramic sunroof, starting from the AX7 variant priced at ₹12.49 lakh onwards. It remains to be seen how Nexon's pricing for its panoramic sunroof-equipped variants will compare with that of the XUV 3XO. The introduction of this feature by Tata Motors is seen as a direct response to its competitor's recent upgrade.
Mechanical specifications will remain unchanged
The Nexon is equipped with several features including dual 10.25-inch touchscreen and a digital driver's display, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, a 9-speaker JBL speaker system, six airbags, ESP, TPMS, and a blind view monitor among others. The SUV comes with a 120hp, 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine and a 115hp, 1.5-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. No mechanical changes are expected following the introduction of the panoramic sunroof feature.
Pricing and market competition for Nexon
The current sunroof-equipped Nexon variants cost about ₹50,000 more than the non-sunroof variant. The Nexon competes with the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza and Fronx, and Toyota Taisor. It remains unconfirmed whether Tata will continue to offer smaller sunroof-equipped models alongside panoramic sunroof models or replace them entirely.
