    What's the story

Homegrown automaker Tata Motors has announced via a teaser that it will launch a new variant of the Altroz hatchback in India soon.

It will be equipped with a DCT gearbox linked to a BS6-compliant 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine.

As for the highlights, the model will look similar to the standard Altroz and shall have an upmarket cabin loaded with features.

    Context

    Why does this story matter?

The Tata Altroz is quite a popular hatchback in India and the introduction of its DCT variant will further boost its sales in the domestic market.

The new version of the car is tipped to be priced competitively on our shores. It will take on rivals such as the Hyundai i20 Turbo and Volkswagen Polo 1.0 TSI.

    Exteriors

The car has alloy wheels and a chrome-surrounded grille

Tata Altroz has a muscular bonnet, a chrome-lined grille, a wide air dam, and swept-back projector headlights with DRLs.

It is flanked by blacked-out B-pillars, ORVMs, and alloy wheels. Wrap-around taillamps and a window wiper grace the rear end.

Dimensions-wise, the car has a wheelbase of 2,501mm and a ground clearance of 165mm. The automatic variant will get an "AUTO" badge on the bootlid.

    Information

    Three engine options are available

Tata Altroz runs on a 1.2-liter petrol engine that makes 85hp/113Nm, a 1.5-liter turbo-diesel mill that generates 89hp/200Nm, and a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol unit that puts out 108hp/140Nm. The mills are linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The new variant will get a DCT unit.

    Interiors

The hatchback has two airbags and five seats

Tata Altroz has a spacious 5-seater cabin, featuring auto climate control, rear AC vents, key-less entry, USB chargers, and a power steering wheel with cruise control.

It packs a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment panel with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The safety of the passengers is ensured by two airbags, a rear-view camera, ABS, crash sensors, and EBD.

    Information

    Tata Altroz: Pricing

In India, the Tata Altroz hatchback starts at Rs. 5.99 lakh and goes up to Rs. 9.69 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, New Delhi). The automatic variants will bear a slightly higher price-tag.
