Tata Altroz Racer set to challenge Hyundai i20 N Line
What's the story
Tata Motors's Altroz Racer is poised to enter the premium hatchback segment, aiming to compete with Hyundai's i20 N Line model.
In FY24, the Tata Altroz outperformed the i20 by 174 units, suggesting a promising future for this model.
The new vehicle is anticipated to revolutionize the market with its high-end features and robust engine.
As per a leaked dealer presentation, it will be positioned as Tata's flagship variant.
Specifications
Altroz Racer will boast premium features
The Altroz Racer is set to impress with a host of best-in-category features.
These include ventilated leatherette seats, a voice-activated electric sunroof, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a head-up display, and a 360-degree surround-view camera.
Safety features such as six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC) will come as standard.
The interior design is marked by high-contrast accents across AC vents, the gear lever, and center console.
Performance
Altroz Racer's engine and transmission
The Altroz Racer will be powered by Nexon's 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine, generating 120hp and 170Nm.
This represents a gain of 10hp and 30Nm over standard Altroz models, promising enhanced performance.
The vehicle is tipped to be offered with only a six-speed manual transmission.
In contrast, the Hyundai i20 N Line features a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine that produces similar power, but offers both manual and DCT transmission options.
Market competition
Altroz Racer expected to outshine Hyundai i20 N Line
The Altroz Racer is tipped to give the Hyundai i20 N Line stiff competition with its superior features and performance.
It boasts a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating, compared to the i20's 3-star rating for the 2022 model.
However, the lack of an automatic gearbox could be a disadvantage for the Altroz Racer.
The Tata Altroz Racer is anticipated to be priced between ₹10 lakh to ₹12.52 lakh (ex-showroom), similar to the Hyundai i20 N Line.
