BS6-compliant Tata Altroz premium hatchback unveiled; bookings commence
Tata Motors Ltd. has unveiled its much-awaited premium hatchback, the Altroz, in India. It is the company's first offering to use the in-house new ALFA (Agile, Light, Flexible and Advanced) platform. Meanwhile, the bookings for the hatchback will commence from today at a token amount of Rs. 21,000 and the launch is slated for the Auto Expo 2020 in February. Here's more.
First, a look at the Tata Altroz
The Tata Altroz hatchback comes with a compact yet sporty look featuring a dual-tone body color including a blackened roof and boot-lid. The car comes with a cascading grille, along with a trapezoidal air-intake, blacked-out B-pillars, sleek headlamps, and a roof-mounted shark-fin antenna as well as spoilers. Besides that, the car houses 16-inch alloy wheels and offers a boot space of upto 665 liters.
Inside the cabin
Inside, the Tata Altroz offers a five-seater cabin with a height-adjustable driver seat, ambient lighting, and a multifunctional steering wheel with cruise control. The car houses a 7-inch instrument cluster, Harman 100W sound system, and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Moreover, it gets safety features like dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and more.
A look at the powertrain options
The Tata Altroz is offered with two BS6-compliant engine options including a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5-liter turbo-diesel. The petrol unit churns out 86bhp of power and 113Nm of peak torque, while the diesel mill produces 90bhp and 200Nm. Both these engines come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, however, the company might introduce an automatic gearbox in the near future.
And, what about pricing?
The Tata Altroz hatchback is likely to be launched in India at the Auto Expo 2020 in February. However, the company will reportedly announce its prices sometime in January. The bookings for the car will commence at a token amount of Rs. 21,000. Once launched, it will go up against rivals such as Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and Hyundai i20.
