Want to transfer vehicle ownership online? Follow these steps
What's the story
The pre-owned vehicle market in India has witnessed a major boom, with several people choosing second-hand vehicles over new ones.
A key step after buying a pre-owned vehicle is transferring its ownership. This process has now been digitized in most states, making it easier for buyers.
However, the process may differ slightly from state to state. Let's have a look.
List
Necessary documents for ownership transfer
To start the online transfer of vehicle ownership, you will need a few documents.
These include the vehicle's registration certificate, insurance and pollution certificates, address proof, and Forms 28, 29, 30, and 31.
If the vehicle is hypothecated to a bank, you will also need Form 35.
You will also require an account with the Parivahan website with a registered phone number for OTP verification.
Procedure
Step-by-step guide to transfer
The online transfer process starts on the Parivahan website.
Users first have to select 'Online Services' and then 'Vehicle Related Services.'
After selecting their respective state, they have to enter the vehicle's registration number and chassis number.
The next step is to select an appropriate application and enter details of both the current owner and the new owner for verification.
Completion
Final steps and fee payment
The verification process is done through the Aadhaar card and OTP. After successful verification, a fee is paid online.
It is advisable for users to print a receipt of the transaction for future reference.
Depending on the state, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) may either mail the new registration certificate to the new owner's address or ask them to visit the RTO in person.
